Looking at these facts and numbers it is just astonishing how fast Social Media has conquered the Internet. As most of the time adoption has started in the USA but right now it is spreading viral world wide. And the growth probably isn't slowing soon.

Businesses can and should profit from this shift and so can you and me. We should be prepared.

Although I like this presentation because it has the potential to push public awareness to Social Media, I think the question you ask might be wrong. You might want to rephrase to: "Does the human need for self-expression matter?", which I think is the underlying pattern that makes all social media work. thanks for the Input, an interesting take.

You're right that there is an underlying motivation why people use Social Networks and it might well be the desire/need for self-expression.

I wanted to take it a step further. My question was aimed at Businesses who should be aware of this trend and see that SM is unavoidable and therefore should start using this new channel to their advantage.

Two perspectives, definitely compatible! :-)
