Doodle - Scheduling made easy

Scheduling is a hassle, Doodle is trying to fix that.

Doodle started out as a project at ETH and because of the service's popularity its creator decided to start a business around the idea two years ago.

I love how easy Doodle makes scheduling among, manager-magazin.de put it this way: "All first-time doodlers are knocked off their feet: there are virtually no obstacles. No registration, no profile, no further ado."

To find a date and time that suits everyone Doodle allows you to create a poll. With just a few clicks it is set up and you get a poll just like the one in the picture. You can also integrate Doodle with Facebook, Outlook, Google Calendar and many more applications. Doodle's basic version is completely for free and can be used without registration, just try it!

Backup to the cloud seamlessly - Get Dropbox!

It has been a while since my last post and I'm sorry for that. But today I have another tip on how you can improve your productivity.

Dropbox is an amazing little tool which allows you to automatically, seamlessly Backup your files into the cloud. Once you install Dropbox it syncs a folder in your regular file system up to the cloud and the best thing: You don't have to do anything it just does it, no matter if you use Windows, Mac OS X or even Linux. This means no more lost files, your Harddisk corrupts, no problem, just sit at another computer and use the automatically backed up file which you can access via Dropbox's website.

But Dropbox isn't just a Backup solution and I'm sure there are many more ways how Dropbox can be used to do new things (e.g. Communicating out of locked down Iran!?)

  1. You can link an account to multiple clients this means you can e.g. share files with a study group or internally within a company. Also if you have more than one computer, e.g. a Laptop and a Netbook, you can seamlessly keep but of them up to date.If you edit a file on your Netbook and save it the new revision will automatically also be available on your Laptop.
  2. Dropbox keeps all the revisions of a file for at least 30 days, this means if you wrongly save a file you can recover the old version etc.
  3. Pictures can put into a special folder. Dropbox then automatically generates photo galleries out of them which you can share with others.
  4. If you want to share larger files that can't be sent via email just drop them into your Public folder and you can easily share them.

The free Version gives you 2 GB of storage space which you can extend by recommending the tool to others. 2 GB is more than enough for all your documents etc. I also wanted to Backup my pictures and therefore use the 50 GB subscription which is US$99. In my opinion a good deal.

So, you can create an Account here: https://www.getdropbox.com/ (If you want to give me and yourself a little more (250MB) space you can also use this link)

Want to write better & faster? Stop interruptions with Writespace

Margin1

As a student I had to write quite a few papers not to speak of my Bachelor's Thesis and the upcoming Master's Thesis. Just a few days ago I stumbled over a small plugin which helps to write without distractions or interruptions and to focus only on your writing.

Writespace, a Word plugin, keeps it simple. It just shows a black screen with your writing. There is a spellchecker and it is possible to change the appearance of your text on the screen but nothing else. No formatting no nothing... you can just write. Try it!

Readability - A tool which makes websites readable

Most of us have had the experience to read long pieces of text on the computer screen. Most of the time those articles are on a website whose font is horribly small and the contrast is so weak you have to pinch your eyes.

It is really exhausting and by no means enjoyable to read such texts... But now there is an easy solution (besides printing). Readability is an astonishing, small bookmarklet which converts unreadable gibberish into nicely formatted and easily readable text. I have been using it for a few weeks now and I just thought I had to share it with you. Try it yourself!
