Slight Rain ;-)

Our ride to University today was abit more adventurous than other times... and the reason for it was that it was raining like hell. I took a short video and a picture to show what its like when there is a thunderstorm here in Singapore...

I couldn't see anything beyond the windshield, I hope the driver could.

One day in Singapore - visiting SMU

So, today was a normal day and I decided to take quite a few pictures, especially because I was at SMU today for the first time. First I was great by a warm message in the MRT (Mass Rapid Transport, even though I think the rapid is quite an exaggeration ;-) But it is a very dense and reliable public transport system and that has to count for something).

and reminded that Singapore is a "fine" city, not in the picture is the fine for taking a Durian with you, but it probably is massive.

I then went to NTU to study a bit (yeah, sometimes I have to do that) and I had to do some research for my meeting at SMU at 3 p.m.. I already posted quite a few pictures of NTU and am only going to link to them from here (and also the one to the pictures of the School of Art, Design & Media) :-)
After getting some lunch I had to hurry to catch the bus which would bring me back to the Pioneer North MRT station, I had to go to the city. Even though its only 25km it took me more than an hour and reminded me of my way to High School [German: English, much less extensive version] back in the days. I had to ride that "train" ten times a week from Start to End, Zürich Stadelhofen to Esslingen. But back to my ride through Singapore.

I exited the MRT at City Hall at the hearth of Singapore. The first thing I saw was the Swissôtel the third highest hotel in the world and the tallest in the South of Asia. Its also the place where we celebrated Michel's birthday last Thursday.

I then continued on my path to Singapore's Management University SMU where I met with my debating team to start forming arguments for the debate on the 13th of October. And then I saw an amazing thing even though they don't have mountains here in Singapore (the highest elevation is called Bukit Timah but only 164 m high) they have a tunnel through one of those "hills" :-)

And to make it easier to climb the elevation of around 20 m there even are some escalators. They definitely would be useful to get up to the university of St. Gallen here in Singapore I chuckled a little

And then I arrived at SMU and I have to say the campus is amazing. Where NTU is large and extensive SMU is compact and very, very modern. One really can see that Singapore is heavily into education (one of the its defined pillars of growth) when looking at the SMU campus. Now just have alook at some of the pictures.

I then ended my day with some more commuting :-) The fun thing in the MRT is I can see from end to end no matter where I'm standing ;-)

Wakeboarding

Together with the TIP (Technopreneurship) Master we went Wakeboarding at the East Coast Park yesterday (I was more diving and swimming than boarding). Let me just say it was great fun and the food afterwards was excellent as one can see by the mess left at the end ;-) I would say we have to do this again!

The first days in Singapore

I have now been in singapore for a few days, actually its already ten.

And I want to tell this story with a few pictures.

When I first arrived in Singapore Noah and I lived in a hotel, the Value Thompson Hotel whcih asked for $77 per night and offered quite a nice experience. The pool was on the rood on the seventh floor, not bad at all...

We then had to find an appartment to live here, which was quite difficult. We needed a four bedroom appartment but there are almost no affordable condos in our price range, so we were up for a challenge and had to eat some nice breakfast first :-)

After a short visit to the Uni and its huge campus, we had to clear up some administrative things, we started our search with a drink at Starbucks ;-)

Finally after a few intense days we found our condo, it is located at Regent Grove near Yew Tee. Just look at the pictures, I for one look forward to move in on the first of August.

After having found a place to live and Hendik and Michel had arrived on Friday afternoon. We went to see an outdoor ballett. Quite nice but it was abit long... The nice thing, we were just sitting on the grass and had a picnic before and during the show,

Right now the Introduction Week at the Nanyang MBa has started and I should focus again...

It is done! Some of my travel plans have been canceled others have changed

It is done, the swine flu pandemic and panic definitely has messed up my travel plans and my budget... :-( I had to cancel the part of my trip which would have led me to San Francisco... This means I won't be able to visit Fabio which is bu******t!

But I could not only limit the financial loss and I will be able to stay one more day in Canada. I will now fly to Canada on the third of July. There I will meet Philippe in Calgary where we will have a chance to catch up and to see the Calgary Stampede. After this I will head to Whistler where I will be doing some Downhill-Mountainbiking and enjoying the mountains, before I embark to Singapore on the 12th of July... So it will be a shortened trip and the seven days of "quarantine" in Singapore probably won't be that much fun, but I will be able to have at least some fun before I get to  bury myself in books again... ;-)

And just because it was so much fun last year, some pictures of Whistler...

The swine flu (probably) put a spoke in my wheels

Most of you know, that I will be studying in Singapore for the coming eight months. To get there I planned a nice little trip via Canada and the United States, visiting some friends, doing fun stuff and relaxing before the studying has to start again... But now the swine flu has put a spoke in my wheels.... I just received the email above. If I arrive in Singapore from the United States I will be required to stay at home for seven days...

This probably means I will have to cancel at least part of my travel plans! Currently there are some emails flooding through the pipes to find out if this is the last word or if it will be possible to somehow get tested and not to have to stay at home but I'm not too hopeful.
